The Experience

Montmartre still feels like a village on a hill, if you know when and where to walk. That's why I like to start at 8:30, before the coaches arrive.

From the Abbesses we climb the quiet backstreets where Picasso, Renoir and Van Gogh lived and painted: the Bateau-Lavoir where Les Demoiselles d'Avignon was born, the last windmills, the vineyard and the Lapin Agile cabaret.

We finish on the Sacré-Cœur steps with the whole city below us, and I'll show you how to read the skyline. A café on a quiet square is the perfect way to end.

Route & Walking Info

  • Distance: About 2.5 km
  • Terrain: Steep streets, cobblestones and many steps
  • Pace: Whatever feels good to you. We take breaks when we need them.
  • Accessibility: If you need to avoid stairs or long walks, tell me before booking and I'll adapt the route.

Good to Know

  • Meeting Point: Abbesses metro station, at the Art Nouveau entrance. I'll send a map link and very clear instructions once you book.
  • Timing: Try to be there 10 minutes early so we can start smoothly.
  • Steps: Montmartre is a hill; there are many stairs. Tell me if that's a concern and I'll adapt.
  • Pickpockets: Keep bags closed on the Sacré-Cœur steps.
  • Heat: In July and August the 8:30 start is much more pleasant.
  • Shoes: Wear your most comfortable ones. Really.
  • Bags: Keep them small; many sites have security checks.
  • Late Arrivals: If you're late, it cuts into our time, but I'll make sure you still see the essentials.

  • Want lunch or dinner afterwards? I'll suggest a table I'd book myself nearby.

FAQ

Is it really private? Yes. Just you, your group, and me.

Will we go inside the Sacré-Cœur? The basilica is a place of worship and free to enter; you're welcome to go in after the tour.

Is it suitable for children? Yes, if they're happy to climb. I keep it playful for younger ones.
