The Experience
Rambouillet was a royal hunting estate, then an imperial one, then a summer home for French presidents. Louis XVI bought it, and built a dairy to make Marie-Antoinette like the place.
We visit the château, then walk through the park and its canals to the Queen's Dairy, the Shell Cottage built for the Princesse de Lamballe, and the royal sheepfold, where the merino flock has lived since 1786.
It's an hour from Montparnasse, full of space and greenery, and a lovely change of pace from the city.
